A makerspace for kids – in Manly
What’s billed as the first kids makerspace in Australia has opened in Manly. TinkerTank has it all – robotics, coding, design wrapped up in courses or just through access to the makerspace. Here’s how they describe themselves:
TinkerTank is a growing S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) community, welcoming people from all ages, disciplines and cultures that seek a deeper understanding of the world we live in, and that our children will grow into. We know that STEAM encourages reasoning and helps teach the type of thinking skills that 21st century adults are going to need in a world where almost everything will be enhanced by this. We passionately believe in the power that ideas can change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. TinkerTank is building a Mentorship base of the area’s most inspired thinkers, doers and makers — and a community of curious kids to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at our TinkerTank HQ, all year long.
They really do have an amazing range of geeky activities and courses. 3D printing, robotics, design thinking, animation, the list goes on. Then there are memberships giving varying levels of access to the space – although these all seem to exclude weekends.
It’s all happening at 29 Rialto Lane, Manly. Those lucky people on the Northern Beaches seem to be getting a lot of cool stuff available recently. TinkerTank’s website is at tinkertank.ai.
