Game Jam Sydney – 48 hours to make a game and ignite an industry
For 48 hours, over the weekend of Jan 24-26, a group of about 100 game designers, developers and artists – both amateur and professional – will come together for an intensive Jam Session, forming small creative teams to design and prototype innovative game ideas.
The organisers expect participants to have a fun time, but they’re also aiming higher than that. “We want to stimulate the game development scene in Australia. We have the talent, the creativity and the resources to create a truly Australian games industry, we just need the initiative to give it a go. We hope that Global Game Jam Sydney continues to be a spark that helps ignite the flame.”
The actual game jam session is not open to spectators, but a selection of the games created will be showcased on Saturday 1 February from 10am– 1.30pm at the Powerhouse Museum. Visitors can play these games, meet a game developer and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. Awards for the best game in various categories will be announced at the Game Jam Sydney 2014 Awards ceremony that afternoon.
