Robowars Sydney is just great entertainment
The lexan safety barrier flexes as a robot flies through the air and smashes into it only centimeters from our faces. Sparks fly as an axe smashes into the concrete. Smoke drifts as blades dig into sensitive electronics. This is Robowars Sydney – and it is a joy to behold.
The first thing that hits you when you see the Robowars robots is that they are anything but flimsy. They are built of solid steel, they are weighty and they have industrial cutting, bashing and lifting tools attached. These things are lethal. The second thing you notice is that when they hit each other they crunch and real damage is done. The safety barriers are there for a reason. This really is a great spectator sport and the crowd today in Redfern were loving it.
This is the first time Robowars Sydney has been held, but here’s hoping it becomes an annual event.
Robowars Sydney is on again tomorrow (4 August) at 107 Redfern St, Redfern.
