Escape a room for charity
I’m an escape room fan – they are, very simply, a cool concept. And now you can escape from a room for a good cause.
Escape room businesses across Australia have teamed up to create Australia’s first Escape Week. From the 11th – 17th of September, 20% of all profits from participating escape rooms will go to The Black Dog Institute. Escape Week is aiming to raise $30,000 through participating businesses and individual donations.
One could be forgiven for linking the idea of mental illness to seeing the fun in being locked in a room with fiendish puzzles – something reinforced by the organisers saying: “We wanted to support a charity that has an impact on our customers.” But in all seriousness mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians and The Black Dog Institute is a wonderful organisation dedicated to understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.
So if you’ve contemplated doing an escape room, Escape Week would be a worthy time to give it a go.
