Code Masters computer programming competition

The University of Melbourne runs the annual Code Masters competition. It is an open coding contest for high school students from across Australia, held both on-campus and online on Thursday 16 March 2017.

Teams of three in either the junior division (years 7–9) or senior division (years 10–12). can enter. Schools will also need a supervisor to ensure the rules are followed. One interesting feature of Code Masters is that students are not allowed Internet access during the competition and you are not allowed to pre-download materials. That means the coding needs to be done from the students’ heads; which is a bit artificial and may put some students off. However, “reference material directly related to your current school studies is permitted” which may provide enough of a scaffold to be going on with.

Students can work in any language to solve a series of problems. The winning team will be the one with the most correct answers within the 2.5 hour time limit.
