Aussie whizz kids saving lives

Channel 7 Sunrise just did a piece on two of the finalists in the BHP Biliton Science and Engineering Awards. Both are in the engineering category and have inventions aimed at saving lives – one with a device to detect rips, the other with a bike safety device.

Since 1981 the BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards have been Australia’s most prestigious school science awards. The awards reward young people who have undertaken practical research projects which demonstrate innovative approaches and thorough scientific or engineering procedures.

These students from around the country are among the finest young scientific minds in Australia, and have gone through rigorous judging to be selected for Australia’s most prestigious school science and engineering awards. They will be competing for a range of prizes including the chance to represent Australia at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States in May 2017.

It is nice to see the awards and the kids getting coverage in the mainstream media. To see the short segment click here.

Full disclosure: The High Viz Bike brothers are the progeny of Geek in Sydney.
