Geeking the July 2016 school holidays with coding, science, and more

holiday-300x150It’s Winter and the July school holidays are just around the corner so it’s time for the usual summary of activities that have made their way through my inbox recently. There are once again some wonderful things to do.

=> Thinkspace at the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences has, as always, a really amazing range of workshops. I really can’t recommend the Thinkspace courses highly enough. Nothing for anyone over the age of 13, sadly, but a winning range of activities up to that age. A new workshop on controlling electronic components on a bottle rocket looks really interesting.

=> CompClub has some really good-looking coding courses at UNSW. Some of these look especially interesting as they’re suitable for more experienced coders.

=> AIE has a range of coding and game design courses including workshops courses for over-15-year-olds. As far as I can see AIE are the only people really catering to older kids / young adults.

=> Codecamp is running its various coding workshops – in a range from beginner to experienced. Codecamp has is now running courses all over Sydney.

=> GirlCode is running workshop for girls in Bondi and on the Central Coast.

=> TechScience has courses in Manly on coding, robotics, electronics, 3D-printing and more good stuff.

=> Centennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park,Mt Anan and a range of vacation care venues are running the always popular Fizzics Education programs.

=> On the North Shore, Professor Plums is running science and robotics workshops during the holidays. Neolithic Tools still looks interesting.

=> The Sydney Programming School has learn to code workshops running at the Mosman Art Gallery.

=> Code it Yourself has camps at Fairy Meadow (and, interestingly, private courses for the kids of Commonwealth Bank staff).

=> The Australian Museum has some good looking holiday activities, including Scientist for a Day and a range of activities exploring Aboriginal culture.

As always, if I’ve missed anything feel free to let me know.
