The Hour of Code is upon us Sydney: Get involved

hourofcodesydneyThis is the week of the Hour of Code. Almost 2000 venues around Australia have signed up to offer students, and others, one hour of coding. It’s not too late to get involved if you haven’t already got something planned.

If you haven’t got an obvious destination in mind you should think about the wonderful Girls Programming Network who are running an event for both boys and girls.

The Girls’ Programming Network at the University of Sydney is running a special Hour of Code event! We’ve got a bunch of projects you can do in only 1 hour! So come any time during the day and do a project or two – we’ll be there from 10am-4pm. We’ll also be running some of our Computerless Computing games all day so you can join in if you like! This is a special GPN open day, so you can bring your family and friends! It’s the perfect day to bring your mum, dad, brothers and sisters to GPN, everyone should come and do an hour of code! Bring all your friends from school, boys and girls!

If you can’t get out to an event then head on over to Grok and do some of the their free stuff. Grok is a Sydney start-up that teaches Python in an engaging and entertaining online course. If, like me, you’re a Javascript fan then take a look at another Sydney creation: Scratch to Javascript (s2js.com).

Really there’s no excuse not to get involved.
