Hacking for teens in Canberra – Don’t miss this if you’re local

hactHACT Canberra is all about “engaging 10-17 year-olds with digital technologies and entrepreneurship through awesome events and a supportive community”.  Their next event is on November 21-22 and it looks brilliant.

HACT is basically a hackathon for teens where they come up with ideas and try to bring them to life over the course of a weekend. ”

I just love this concept. What better way to engage kids in technology than to give them a chance to be creative, backed up by good tools and industry professionals.

Learn alongside friendly early-to-mid career mentors. Get started with digital technologies, use industry tools, and make new friends that are into the same thing. Already making your own projects? Come along, make a project of your own design over the weekend, and compete for prizes.

The cost is $99 which gets you the two-day event plus a t-shirt, drinks and a pizza lunch on the Sunday. There are four streams to choose between:

  • Web
  • Game Development using Virtual Reality and Simulation technology
  • Robotics and Electronics
  • 3D Art, Animation & 3D Printing

Really the only criticism I can level at it is that it isn’t in Sydney, and in spite of my efforts I haven’t been able to find out if the organisers have any plans to do a Sydney one.

Any 10-17 year-old within striking distance of Canberra should be going to HACT. Details are all here.

Thanks for the write up! We had a great weekend at the HACT event. We’re organising our events schedule for 2016, and getting to Sydney is absolutely on our to do list 🙂
