One Minute Physics is high on my list of things I look forward to every week. Their latest video on why the solar system can exist  is just a brilliant example of science communication. But it’s not my favourite.

My favourite One Minute Physics video has nothing to do with science at all. But it has completely shifted my world view. You know those fake-y old signs that say things like ‘Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe’? Well, it turns out that I’ve been completely mispronouncing and misunderstanding the ‘ye’ in there for my entire life. (This, of course, will be where everyone I know pops up and tells me that it’s just been me and everyone has known about this forever).

The video is well worth watching, but just in case you can’t be bothered doing so – ‘ye’ was simply an abbreviated way of writing ‘the’ and was always pronounced as ‘the’.
