Review: GENx Hybrid Bumper Case

Nex5_Gx-Fus01bI personally don’t like putting cases on my phones, but Senior Android Correspondent Callum P is made of hardier stuff and has filed this report on the GENx Hybrid Bumper Case.

GENx Hybrid Bumper Case is made to protect the Nexus 5 smartphone. The case simply wraps around the edges of the phone, with easy access for charging and buttons. Audio quality is slightly affected, but only if you listen closely. The case is good in that it protects your phone and allows for easy access for both sides; but it can feel odd holding the phone without the smooth curve of most cases around the back.

The fact that the case wraps around the edges and does not get in the way of the screen at all is good for anyone who uses their phone for games. It is actually easier to get the charger plugged in with the case on, as the gap for the plug guides it in. The buttons on the side of the phone need slightly more pressure to activate, but the overall feel of the phone is basically the same.

The case protects the phone well, although only from flat surfaces: If something comes straight at either face, the bumper can obviously do little to help. Its major downside is that when you get it, it feels weird because of the space between your fingers and the back of the phone. Over time, you do get used to it.

On the whole I recommend this case. People who care devoutly about their audio, or want a case with a back as well might look for other models, but generally speaking, this is a great way to protect your gadget.

The case was provided for review by the lovely folk at MobileZap.
